Doorstep selling - October 2008
In October 2008 new doorstep selling regulations were introduced building on the protection offered to consumers. For sales with a value of £35 or more, traders will have to comply with this more onerous legislation. Now, a consumer of goods bought as a result of both solicited as well as unsolicited visits to the home, place of work, the home of another person, or an excursion organized by the trader away from the trader's business premises will be entitled to a 7 day cooling off period in which to cancel.
Under the new rules, the cooling off period of 7 days will start on the day the consumer is given written notice of the right to cancel. The 'Notice of Right to Cancel' must be displayed prominently in the contract document.
Consumers can cancel by written notice to the seller.
